Portable power stations for home essentials

A portable power station is a battery, inverter and charger in one box. It runs ordinary plug-in devices, with no installation.

Example: EcoFlow RIVER 3

Will it cover my essentials?

Energy (Wh) ÷ load (W) ≈ hours, before conversion losses. Our arithmetic: a 15 W router plus a 60 W TV is 75 W, and 245 Wh ÷ 75 W ≈ 3.3 hours at best. LookSee's ranges are a useful starting point: router 2–20 W, LED TV 26–117 W, laptop 20–100 W3.

300 W of output1 rules out kettles, heaters and geysers, which LookSee puts in the thousands of watts3.

For bigger loads, see our sister site's power station price comparison. Specs are as listed by the seller; we have not tested the unit.
